“Cape Town and George Ladies – Floral Demonstration for Adult Home Tea Fundraiser”
The Tea was instigated by a very generous, warm hearted Lady, Andri Fouche. Andri fell in love with Samantha and JJ Rubin; that attend Up With Down’s Adult Center and stay at the UWD Hostel.
Andri visited the UWD Coffee Shop in Blanco, George. This lead to Andri and Jan Fouche pledging themselves to working towards raising funds, for an Adult Home for UWD. This is desperately needed in the Southern Cape, a great shortage of Special Needs Adult Homes.
Up With Down’s has been going since 1998, starting with 4 children. 34 learners are at Up With down’s, at present. Up With Down’s caters for Children and Young Adults with Special Needs. The ages range from 5 years old to 33 years old. The Adult Center has 9 Young Adults; next year there will be 15.
The Adult Home will be a “Home Away From Home”, for the Special Needs Adults. These Adults will come from all over the Southern cape. At present there are 2 Young Adults from Knysna and 1 from Plettenberg Bay staying at the Hostel. But at some point Up With Down’s needs to separate the School going children from the Adults; and that is why we are needing an Adult Home. This will allow our Adults to live in a safe, caring, loving environment; which will allow them to reach their full potential as Human Beings.
Once in a Blue Moon
/in Events, News/by UpwithdownsThe Annual Up with Down’s Wine Auction was another huge success! The theme was “Once in a Blue Moon”. Nearly 200 guests enjoyed the evening at Fancourt which was filled with lively bidding, wonderful food, and great conversations around the tables. Most importantly the evening provided financial support for Up with Down’s.
